Who does the Key to 73 Foundation serve?

The Key To 73 Foundation was established in 2017 as a 501 (c)3 with the purpose of bringing innovation and enrichment into the classroom of Hawthorn School District 73.  District 73 is an incredibly diverse school district with 8 schools educating kindergarten through 8th grade students.

District 73 enrolls over 4300 students, and according to the Illinois State Board of Education, the amount of revenue compared to the number of students and their needs unfortunately puts

District 73 close to 15% underfunded.  In comparison, Districts in the surroundings are overfunded by as much as 50%.

Solely through private funding, the Foundation will give educators the opportunity to bring in resources and cutting-edge innovation that will allow the students to experience equally what many other districts in the area are able to provide.

What impact does the Key to 73 Foundation make?

Our district has approximately 28% of families who are considered low income, and many who live below the federal poverty line.  For many of these children, the classroom is the only resource for educational opportunities.

Imagine an 8th grade Social Studies class that can no longer visits Washington D.C. to see the workings and history of our government.  Virtual reality can now bring this experience to the classroom thanks to the donors of the Key to 73 Foundation.  Introducing these innovative ideas early in a student’s education will help develop foundational skills they will carry with the rest of their lives.
